2. WHY DO WE OFFER MINIMUM OF 1-HOUR LESSONS FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

At Online Music Lessons Philippines, we offer 30-minute lessons to our local students, along with the option for hybrid learning, which combines both online and face-to-face instruction. This flexibility works well for local students who prefer shorter, more frequent sessions or those who want the benefits of occasional in-person guidance.

For our international students, we require a minimum of 1-hour lessons. This approach ensures that students can make the most of each session, especially when coordinating across different time zones. A full hour allows for deeper engagement, personalized feedback, and a more comprehensive learning experience, including interactive activities and in-depth instruction. This extended session helps mitigate the challenges posed by scheduling and time zone differences while ensuring that international students receive a rich, immersive music education. For younger students, we incorporate music games and activities into the lessons. These interactive elements help keep children engaged while reinforcing fundamental concepts in a fun, playful way. With a full hour, there's enough time to balance structured learning with interactive play, which helps children absorb and retain what they’ve learned.

3. ARE LESSONS ONE ON ONE OR BY GROUP?

Lessons are one-on-one, as we believe individual instruction is more effective. Group lessons in an online setting may not provide the same level of productivity and personalized attention.

4. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO LEARN AN INSTRUMENT?

Learning varies from student to student. In 8 to 12 sessions, young kids will learn basic skills and play around 3 to 5 short songs, like "Mary Had a Little Lamb" or parts of classical music. However, 8 sessions are not enough to fully learn sight-reading or a wide variety of songs. Just like learning a language, it takes time, and younger children need more time to retain what they’ve learned.

That’s why many of our students continue lessons for 3 to 6 months or even longer. For younger children, longer study periods are important. If a child stops after 8 or 16 sessions, they might forget what they learned, making it harder to progress later on. Repetition over time is key to mastering these skills.

For teens and adults wanting to learn chords along with sight-reading classical music, you can start learning basic chords in 12 sessions, but it will take a few months to play independently unless you have prior musical experience.

5. DO YOU HAVE FREE TRIAL?

We have a paid trial. Given the number of trial requests we receive and our teachers’ busy schedules, we believe they should be fairly compensated for their time and effort, especially during these challenging times.

6. HOW DOES THE ONLINE LESSONS WORK?

Our online lessons closely mirror the structure of traditional face-to-face instruction. The main difference lies in the use of technology to facilitate the learning process. For instruments like piano, for example, the teacher will adjust the camera to focus on the keys, allowing the student to follow along easily.

Despite being virtual, our lessons are highly interactive and effective. With proper and detailed instruction, even young children can follow along and progress. The one-on-one format ensures that each student receives personalized attention, allowing the teacher to guide them step by step, just as they would in an in-person setting.

Online learning is not only feasible but highly efficient, especially for individual instruction. Students can still develop their skills, receive feedback in real time, and engage with their teacher just as they would in a physical classroom—making the online format both practical and rewarding for learners of all ages.

7. MY CHILD HAS ZERO KNOWLEDGE IN MUSIC, WILL SHE LEARN?

Absolutely! Many of our students start with no prior knowledge of music, and we guide them step by step through the learning process.

8. WHAT IS YOUR AGE LIMIT?

Piano and Ukulele - at least 5 years old. Young kids who find hard with guitar can start with ukulele first.

Voice - at least 6 years old

Guitar - at least 7 years old (maybe challenging for kids with small/weak fingers. Guitar has 6 strings.)

Violin - at least 7 years old

Cello - at least 7 years old

No age limit for adults!

9. WHY DO YOU HAVE AGE LIMIT FOR VOICE?

The minimum age requirement for voice lessons is 5 years old. This age limit is in place because vocal exercises involved in lessons can strain the voices of younger children. We recommend starting by encouraging them to listen to or watch Broadway music performances and enjoy singing through activities like karaoke. Formal lessons at this stage may be too early, as it's important for young kids to first develop a natural love for singing and discover their own voice.

For other instruments, the age limit is based on a young child's shorter attention span. Starting at the right age ensures a more effective and enjoyable learning experience.

12. CAN I MEET THE TEACHERS BEFORE I BEGIN THE LESSONS?

Our teachers are highly experienced professionals, each carefully selected for their skills and abilities through a thorough screening process. Our goal is to provide you with the best music education possible, which is why our instructors are dedicated solely to teaching. We ask that you place your trust in us when choosing your instructor, and we recommend meeting your teacher after enrollment to ensure the focus remains on your learning experience.

13. HOW DO WE DIFFER FROM OTHER MUSIC SCHOOLS?

What makes us unique is our focus on personalized music education, delivered by highly experienced and talented instructors. Many of our teachers can play by ear, showcasing their exceptional skills beyond formal training. We tailor our lessons to suit each student’s individual needs and learning style, ensuring a customized experience. Additionally, we are digitally aligned, embracing modern technology to enhance the learning process. For younger students, we emphasize fostering a natural love for music before formal training. Our commitment to quality instruction, a supportive environment, and modern teaching methods sets us apart, helping students not only learn music but develop a lifelong passion for it.

14. ARE THE TEACHERS QUALIFIED?

What sets us apart is our focus on personalized music education with highly qualified and talented instructors, many of whom can play by ear. Our teachers are carefully selected for their expertise, passion, and alignment with our values. We emphasize both skill and character, ensuring a positive learning environment. If you ever encounter issues with a teacher not adhering to our policies, feel free to contact the admin. We are also digitally aligned, using modern technology to enhance the learning experience and provide the best education possible.

15. WHAT IF THE STUDENT'S & TEACHER'S PERSONALITIES DON'T JIVE OR THE STUDENT IS DISSATISFIED?

The big advantage of enrolling your student in a school is the assurance that they will be well taken care of. Teachers who violate policies will be promptly reprimanded, and if there are any personality differences between a teacher and student, we can easily provide a replacement. However, such instances are rare, as we strive to match students with the right instructors to ensure a positive learning experience from the start.

16. WHAT IF MY CHILD SUDDENLY DOESN'T WANT TO CONTINUE ANYMORE?

If your child loses interest in their current instrument, they are welcome to try another one. Additionally, if the issue is more related to the teacher-student dynamic, we also offer the option to transfer to another teacher. Exploring different instruments or working with a new teacher can help reignite their passion for music. While it takes a few months to build basic proficiency, we recommend giving it at least two months before deciding to switch or quit. That said, you are never locked into lessons—you can stop lessons and payments at any time.

17. CAN I JUST TAKE ONE MONTH OF LESSONS ONLY?
In one month you really don’t have enough time to give your lessons a fair chance. It takes time to translate what you are learning into a physical skill. Much like going to the gym, it takes time to see results. However, our school does not require semester minimums for lessons. Every student here is on a month to month basis. It is the parents' responsibility to keep the admin and teachers informed.

18. CAN I SIT IN WITH MY CHILD'S LESSONS?

Yes, we have an open door policy. It is your choice when to sit in. However, please keep in mind that while some students work better with a parent in the room, others may find it distracting. The teacher will give you some advice on this after they get to know your child.

19. HOW MUCH TIME DOES MY CHILD NEED FOR PRACTICE?
We recommend a minimum of 15 minutes per day. Although this is the absolute minimum recommendation, students will progress faster and remember more if they are able to practice more often. For young children, the practicing goes much better if the parent supervises.

20. DO YOU ACCEPT STUDENTS OVERSEAS?

Yes of course. In fact, 40% of our students are Filipinos abroad. Foreigners wherever and whoever you are are accepted.

21. DO YOUR TEACHERS SPEAK ENGLISH?

Yes, the majority of our teachers are fluent in English, as it is our second language in the Philippines. This ensures clear and effective communication throughout the lessons.

22. DO YOU PROVIDE A CURRICULUM/METHOD?

100%. At Online Music Lessons Philippines, we carefully choose the right method and techniques book for each student, based on their age, skill level, and musical goals. This serves as the core of our curriculum, ensuring a personalized and effective learning experience. To maintain the exclusivity of our materials, we only provide access to the curriculum upon enrollment and avoid sharing it publicly online.

We offer lessons in a wide range of genres, including classical, pop, jazz, contemporary, and folk music. Additionally, students have the option to request their favorite songs, which we integrate into their lessons to make learning more enjoyable and engaging. This personalized approach ensures that each student receives a well-rounded music education while pursuing the styles they are most passionate about.
